my first sushi

I've developed a certain love for sushi just a few years ago as it was one of the most expensive food in Pinas when I was still studying and could not afford it. It is only recently that I get to eat more of it and just love, love, love it. There was even a period when I was pregnant and I craved for it. Doon ko ata pinaglihi ang anak ko.

I've heard of people doing it themselves but I never got round to someone showing me how to do it... well, actually once yes, at a Japanese friend's house, Cheiko is her name, who prepared it for us. But the only thing I can remember was how she was fanning the rice when she opened the rice cooker. She told us its one of the tricks in preparing sushi.

Then last Friday, I just had this major craving for cooking. As it is, I have been really busy with activities outside our home that I practically haven't done any cooking for a few months now. I actually felt guilty and, well, miss cooking. So on that day, I visited quite a number of cooking sites and then I stumbled upon this web-site imakesushi.com, which was really easy to follow and very clear.

And so, after completing my ingredients and crossing my heart, I embarked on "the road less travelled of Sushi". Well, less travelled by me, or even never. Anyway, I copied the content of the site in a notebook so I won't forget the mixture to be used. However, I was also doing matamis na ginataan when I was doing this one too... well I know it was quite a combination but... para akong naglihi sa pagluluto...

Anyway, so I mixed the vinegar and things, prepared the nori, cut the fillings, rolling mat, looking from time to time on my notes, prepared the wasabi, then finally the first bite... OH WOW! Sushi Master! Hai!

Hey, I kid you not. My hubby and niece will testify to that! Too bad I did not take a picture of it but I wanted to get some real sushi plates first and then I'll definitely make a souvenir. At that time I just felt stupid if my presentation looked good but the sushi tasted bad. But now I feel more confident so I shall sushi on...

For that web-site, Arigato!

a mom's chronicle - you turned three

My little boy, you turned three. How time flies so fast! I still marvel how you've grown from this tiny weenie baby to this active little boy jumping from one sofa to the other giggling with delight. How you love playing with us by jumping and tickling us, and also crushing us all in one go. You love making faces so that we'd laugh and you give kisses so generously, its really sweet and wonderful. You love imitating what we say now and we're just waiting until you burst in conversation that would be more coherent to us. Its easier to explain things to you now than before, so indeed you're growing. Your pleasure is our pleasure and we're savouring every moment spent with you. Sorry for making mistakes sometimes but you're our first boy so we are sometimes deciding blindly and hoping our gut feeling is working well. We hope you loved your birthday parties...
